Artist In The Wilderness Artist Statement by Robert Stump The wilderness calls to me and I follow it. I pursue it and stalk it like a hunter. I try to capture it but rarely succeed. I want to hold it in my heart so much it hurts. Sometimes after completing a painting I walk out of the woods and feel like a thief, like I have stolen a moment in time. I take my trophy home to hang on my wall to remind me of the brief connection that the wilderness has allowed me. I realize then that I have been given a gift from nature.
