DON PASQUALE
The titular bachelor resolves to exclude his nephew from his considerable will if he weds the street-wise Norina, an “experienced” widow. However, the Don’s trusted advisor Dr. Malatesta has other plans in mind. Joining forces with Norina, Malatesta sets Don Pasquale up with a mystery woman who will teach him a lesson in love he won’t soon forget. Are the kids all right? Can love conquer tradition? And is it ever possible to change a bachelor set in his ways?
Bold, hilarious, and full of recognizable tunes, this Italian opera buffa is one of Donizetti’s most celebrated works. This production features returning Opera Saratoga Artist Andy Papas as Don Pasquale. Performances July 1 & 7, 7:30pm; July 9, 2pm
A GENTLEMAN’S GUIDE TO LOVE AND MURDER
When penniless Monty Navarro gets dumped by his upper-class girlfriend, he rues his fate…until he finds out that he is a long-lost relative of the prestigious D’Ysquith family, and only ninth in line to be Earl. With an eye towards the D’Ysquith fortune and a heart set on love, Monty decides to slay his way to the top of the family tree.
A sophisticated romp filled with unforgettable music, A Gentleman’s Guide has non-stop laughs and a show-stealing role for returning Opera Saratoga Artist Eric McConnell who plays the entire D’Ysquith Family. Broadway conductor and Opera Saratoga favorite Laura Bergquist returns to the podium after her triumphs in Sweeney Todd and Man of La Mancha. Performances June 30, July 6 & 8, 7:30pm; July 2, 2pm
THE SELFISH GIANT
A selfish giant who believes that flowers are better than people. An unwanted child who dares to trespass. An enchanted tree who believes in the power of connection. This magical family opera teaches us about making space, community, and transformation as the selfish giant learns to share his bountiful garden with neighboring children.
Perfect for kids of all ages and featuring a cast of 2023 Festival Artists and music directed by Opera Saratoga alum Nathan Cicero. FREE Performances at UPH: July 1 & 8, 11:00am. Other performances listed below.
