NorthWind Fine Arts Presents Lee Ann Sporns' "Those We Meet"
NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery member, Lee Ann Sporn presents a collection of colored pencil drawings inspired first by Martha Reben’s tuberculosis era books, The Healing Woods and The Way of the Wilderness, then by her own healing adventures in the woods during the recent coronavirus pandemic. She titles the show “Those We Meet”. Gallery hours are Thursday-Saturday 11-5. Exhibit: October 2-31.
“While at Weller Pond, Martha and the wild animals she encountered seemed to develop a mutual fascination. They respected and enjoyed her humanness and she their pure, unconditioned wildness. I like to think the pieces I created would have pleased her—my rendering of them in the setting of the whole of her experience at Weller Pond…the phase of the moon, the flora in bloom… While these Reben-inspired pieces are still a “collection-in progress”, I also began a series of drawings of my own, extraordinary animal encounters—the raven at sunset on Algonquin, the peregrine at dawn on Gothics. I share with Martha the feeling that our chance encounters with members of the animal kingdom are simultaneously joyful, sacred and restorative.” Lee Ann Sporn
