NorthWind Fine Arts is pleased to feature the exhibit, “Just Breathe: Painting the Adirondacks” showcasing the work of oil painter Susan Whiteman during the month of August. The gallery is at 85 Main Street, Saranac Lake, NY.  It is open daily, 10-4.

Susan lives in the Adirondacks, and is one of the area’s plein air painters.  Her work is inspired in part by the Hudson River School of painters, but has contemporary interpretive aspects that make her paintings unique. Each painting is carefully composed to bring the peace and beauty of the region to the viewer.  She notes, “There is usually some sky drama in my paintings in the form of a luminous sunset, or remarkable clouds.

Our latitude allows us to have long, lingering sunsets that find their way into my work.”  One of her favorite haunts is Norman Ridge Road, where she captures the big sky of historic farmland that is so vast it can be seen from the top of Whiteface Mountain.  She also paints local waterways, orchards, and mountain vistas. In winter months she works in her local studio gallery, which is available to visit by appointment.

NorthWind Fine Arts Gallery is in the heart of the High Peaks Region, just 9 miles from Lake Placid, and is a favorite destination for those who want to bring home an artful “piece of the Adirondacks.”

Meet the Artist! Susan will be in the gallery August 5, 9, 26 and 29.
